Medical School in the Dominican Republic
Today I am honored to be continuing our Medical Education Monday series with Medical School in the Dominican Republic. Our Mind On Med guest blogger for today is Vera, a 21 year old medical student in the Dominican. She’s starting her 5th year of medicine and is still wide open on the specialty front, but has a special interest in Neurology. She loves blogging, snail mail, singing and coffee (would we even call her a [...]

Specialty Choice – MomMD Cross Post
A few weeks back I tweeted something to the effect of “I’m SO excited for my Ob/Gyn rotation, but terrified I’m going to fall in love with it. I don’t want to love Ob/Gyn!” My tweet referenced the underlying fear I harbor of loving a specialty that is demanding or lacks family friendliness. One of the first responses I received was along the lines of “Being miserable every single day at work is not worth [...]

Shift Change
Thank you so much to everyone who helped me choose a name for the MomMD blog! My first post will be up on their site around 8am Monday, I hope you’ll stop by and give me some feedback on it! Here are the final results from the poll, which I ended on August 16 at 6:30pm: I loved both Shift Change and Practical Patience and those two were basically tied the entire time. Shift [...]

Clinically, Who Should We Call “Doctor?”
Occasionally I see a patient I took care of a while back wandering around the hospital. This particular patient consistently refers to me as “She-Won’t-Let-Me-Call-Her-Doctor,” it cracks me up every time, but I’m well aware of where I got the nickname. “Hello, Dr. Jones” is a phrase I’ve begun to hear more and more in the past few weeks. While it is interesting to hear myself referred to as “doctor,” a doctor I am not and, as [...]

My Doctor Has A “DO,” What Is That?
I am honored to have @DrJonathan, a Family Medicine resident from Chicago, guest blogging this week for Medical Education Monday on what exactly a “DO” degree is. After receiving questions on Twitter from two separate people asking if it was “ok” to continue seeing their physician who had a “DO” degree, I knew it was time for this post. Before applying to medical school I truly had no idea there were two types of physicians [...]

Internal Medicine Clerkship
I started my Internal Medicine clerkship in July and my shelf exam will be on August 25th. Since I’m just over half-way done I figured it would be a good time to do a recap of the past few weeks. Internal Medicine Internal Medicine is a specialty that primarily deals with diseases in adults. As our clerkship director put it, I-Med is basically everything minus pregnancy, kids and surgery. It’s a very broad specialty and not [...]

365 Days of (Mobile) Photos – Week 5
July 27 – August 2 Don’t forget to vote in the MomMD Blog Name poll in the sidebar! Tweet This Post
I’m a Medical Student (that means I'm in school to become a doctor). My life story can be viewed here. I started this blog in hopes of landing a role in a Lifetime movie so I could quit school and move to Hollywood, so if you wouldn't take medical advice from Angelina Jolie, you shouldn't take it from me. I may not even be a real person. In fact I'm probably a spambot. Or a 15 yo boy blogging from a dingy basement. If you're really interested you can read more about me here. If you have any questions or want to guest post contact me.
