Bachmann Earned Wakefield’s Vote

Vaccine

Last week my husband was watching the CNN Republican debate in our bedroom as I sorted articles of clothing from my overflowing closet into trash and donate piles. When I caught a second between “what was I drinking when I bought this” and “did I seriously wear that” thoughts I half-listened in to the comments coming from the TV. However, when Minnesota’s 6th district representative started talking about my state and the HPV vaccine she […]

What Medical School Doesn’t Teach Us

Defeated, Confused, Sad Doctor

In the course of our work as doctors we will undoubtedly witness events that change the life of our patients, but coming into medical school I never realized how directly some of these events would also change my life.  Often in medicine we see people at the worst possible time. Our patients are usually sick or grieving and rarely happy to be in our presence, no matter how great we might think we are. More […]

Interviewing for Medical School

As a member of the admission’s committee at our school and as someone who recently(ish) went through the application and interview process (twice), I get asked a lot if I have any advice for those in the midst of attempting to get into medical school. I’m a bit long winded (I know, you’re shocked), so I thought I’d write out my typical answers here to avoid pushing my Tweet count any higher than it already […]

Compulsive Phone Checking?

High Five Wrigley

It’s 9:30am on a gorgeous, albeit scorching hot, morning in Rancho Mirage, California and I’m leaving a group lecture on the family dynamics of addiction at a world-renowned addiction treatment facility. As if it’s been magnetically cued I find my right hand patting the rear pocket of my jeans in search of an iPhone. It’s not there. After looking around to make sure no one watched me patting my own rear I am awe struck […]

Married In Medical School – MomMD Cross Post

Shift Change on MomMD

In Good Times & In Bad – Married In Medical School What’s it like to be married in medical school? My answer is always the same – it’s really fine, but I don’t have anything to compare it to since I was married before I began the process of forgetting basic math, spelling & grammar in order to make room for the Kreb’s Cycle, mechanism of action of Lamivudine and 22q11 deletions. However, I do […]

Medical School in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo Children's Hospital

Today I am honored to be continuing our Medical Education Monday series with Medical School in the Dominican Republic. Our Mind On Med guest blogger for today is Vera, a 21 year old medical student in the Dominican. She’s starting her 5th year of medicine and is still wide open on the specialty front, but has a special interest in Neurology. She loves blogging, snail mail, singing and coffee (would we even call her a […]

About The Author

I'm an ObGyn. I started this blog as a medical student (some would call that doctor school) and now I'm working as an Ob/Gyn, which is seriously the coolest job ever. I'm a twin mom and recently added a baby brudder to the mix. My life story through November 2010 can be viewed here. The events in the many years following can be summed up as wedding bells, books, exams, babies, and doctoring. I started this blog in hopes of landing a role in a Lifetime movie so I could quit medicine and move to Hollywood, but that hasn't happened...so if you wouldn't take medical advice from Angelina Jolie, you shouldn't take it from me. I may not even be a real person. In fact, I'm probably a spambot. Or possibly a 15 yo boy blogging from a dingy basement. If you're really interested you can read more about me here. If you have any questions or want to guest post contact me.
